As well as an addiction for covering bikes with daft acronyms, manufacturers are now handily plastering components with the correct torque settings.
With carbon and alloy bike jewellery getting ever lighter, the need for it to be correctly installed is getting increasingly important... As you heave on your allen key with your gorilla hands, just how tight is tight? Thing is most torque wrenches cost the same as a new pair of disco slippers, so unless you have a neatly arranged home workshop stacked with Park Tools, you'll probably choose the white Sidi's!
To save you cracking your carbon bars because you've over tightened the stem, I'd recommend getting one of these 4mm torque keys from Bontrager. Nice and cheap, it's preset to 5nm (very common setting on lots of components) and you simply do up whatever allen bolt you're tightening until the tool goes "click", preventing you from turning it any further and doing any damage. Everybody who's had a go has vowed to get one, so it's unsurprising that they're currently flying off the shelves. Get one quick along with some fiber grip and ride in the knowledge that you haven't voided the manufacturers warranty!"
